Queen City Clay will host its 6th annual Holiday Bazaar on November 17th & 18th from 10 am to 5 pm each day. The Holiday Bazaar Holiday is a chance for members of the Cincinnati community to come see the incredible artwork created at Queen City Clay. Over 60 staff, students, and full-time artists showcase and sell their work throughout our 24,000 sq. ft. studio.There will be functional pottery, ceramic jewelry, ornaments, decorative sculpture, and gift items for sale. In addition there will be coffee, cupcakes, a chocolatier and a food truck! To celebrate this event a city wide treasure hunt will take place beginning October 17th and commencing at the Holiday Bazaar. Earlier this year Queen City Clay unveiled a line of Cone 6 commercial glazes.These unique and versatile glazes are named for beloved Cincinnati Neighborhoods. Potter Moriah Oberlin used these glazes to make more than 30 tiny treasure pots for the Great BIG Holiday BazaarTreasure Hunt. Ceramic enthusiasts can learn more about the glazes by following the hunt or at www.queencityclay.com. The treasure pots are numbered and will be hidden throughout Cincinnati. Queen City Clay will post photos and clues on their Facebook page for the community to follow. When a pot is found the finder will post a photo to the Facebook page to alert fellow treasure hunters that it has been found. New pots will be hidden each week. Queen City Clay is the region’s largest & oldest existing clay studio, gallery, and supply center focusing on education and promotion of the ceramic arts. Our 24,000 sq.ft. studio is home to hundreds of artists. From long-time professionals, to amateur artists, to new students just learning the art of ceramics, Queen City Clay is their home away from home. We strive to be a resource for ceramics artists and teachers across the tri- state. Through Classes, Workshops, Special Events and School Field Trips we are able to get clay in to the hands of nearly 2,500 people each year! Queen City Clay is seeking on-call instructors for Special Events, Field Trips and Open Wheel Classes. Both Leads and Assistants needed. Instructors will be responsible for leading or assisting with short term programs ranging from 1 to 4 hours at a time. Programs include beginning instruction in wheel throwing or hand building with clay. Responsibilities Include: Setting up studio for instruction, gathering necessary tools Taking attendance during events Lead or assist with instruction on basic wheel throwing or hand building techniques Ensure students properly clean stations and studio Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with clay in a studio or educational environment Experience teaching or assisting with instruction in ceramic arts Desire to introduce beginners to the clay experience and promote involvement in our community Hours and Benefits: Events are scheduled 7 days a week within the hours of 9 am and 9 pm. We invite students of any accredited College or University in the great state of Ohio, currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate (and any of those having graduated within 12 months of the show date), to apply to this show celebrating Fine Art/Craft’s most intimate form. We want to see your take on functional and sculptural mugs, tea & coffee cups, steins, goblets, and tumblers; in all shapes, sizes, and ceramic forms. Please follow the directions below to apply! No late applications will be accepted nor reviewed. No multi-file applications will be reviewed. All accepted works must be available for purchase. QCC retains 20% of sale price. Looking for something fun and different to do to WOW your partner for Valentines Day? Join us for a special Couples Open Wheel session! In this exclusive session, you will be working with your partner to create one of a kind couples companion pots. Just like our regular open wheel, this is all about having fun and getting dirty! The Valentine’s Couples Open Wheel sessions are one-night programs with both group and personal instruction. Love is in the air for these, we’ll set the mood with chocolates and some bubbly you bring the romance - first dates to lifelong loves welcome! Clay, tools, firing, and instruction from our knowledgeable staff and valentine’s treats are included. Feel free to bring your favorite drinks and snacks, too! Plan to arrive a little early so you can get settled. Six sign-ups are necessary for the program to run, so get some couples together and make a night of it! If your session will not run for any reason, we will call you by 1 pm the day of the class. Prepayment is required. No refunds are permitted 24 hours in advance. Ages 18 and up. HART Benefit Saturday, May 20th 9-5pm We’ve teamed up with Homeless Animal Rescue Team of Cincinnati to raise money for their organization. The fundraiser will have a few different parts: 1. Keepsakes: The entire month of May we will donate 10% of the profits from any animal keepsakes purchased. If you have a beloved pet in your life, consider getting their paws imprinted into a beautiful plaque made by our very own Laurie Wright! For more information or examples, check out our sample wall in the Pottery Painting Studio or contact Laurie! 2. Open Wheel: The profits from our Family Open Wheel class on May 20th will be donated to HART. We’re hoping to fill that class, so if you know of any friends or family who’ve always wanted to try the wheel but haven’t done so yet, this is their chance! Register here. 3. Adoption Event: HART will be bringing adoptable dogs to QCC from 12-3pm! This is great exposure for the pups and hopefully we can get some animals into their forever homes! 4. Pottery Painting Studio: 15% of all pieces painted in our Pottery Painting Studio will go directly to HART. This is an amazing activity to do with kids or a group of friends. Mark your calendars! If you love throwing bowls and donating your time towards an incredible cause, join us for our annual Throw-a-Thon! If production pottery isn’t your strong suit, consider contributing in another way: help us by transporting pots to/from drying racks, cleaning up pots, organizing and labeling, the list goes on and on! There will be plenty to do, and we appreciate all the help we can get. We’ll also have someone running a pinch-pot demo, so if you’re more of a hand builder we’d love to have you here making bowls! Bring a side dish or your favorite beverage. Let’s make this event epic! All bowls will be donated to the Clay Alliance for the 18th annual Empty Bowls, a benefit for the Freestore Foodbank’s Kids Cafe. Past Empty Bowls events have raised over $223,000 for Kids Cafe in the fight against childhood hunger.
