We are always looking to bring you great quality workshops. We offer both in studio and virtual workshops for beginners to advanced ceramic artists and potters. Check in often to see what we have coming up.

2024 Workshop Season

 

We’re excited to announce our entire 2024 workshop season!  It includes national level workshops with visiting artists, in-house workshops taught by our lead instructors, and atmospheric workshops in our kiln yard.  Everything is now open for registration.  If you have a Workshop Pass, or are included in any other discounts through your studio membership, make sure to check your email (including spam) for those discount codes!

All About Surface

April 14th, 10am-2pm

Join us as we dive deep into printing with slip and underglaze techniques.  Participants will learn how to create and print their own designs, and also gain experience with traditional techniques such as sgraffito, Mishima, and water etching.  Basic decorating supplies will be provided, but students are encouraged to bring any favorite stencils, brushes, underglaze colors, etc. that they already have and may want to incorporate into their designs. Clay not included.

We will break mid-workshop for lunch.  Participants may pack or go pick something up.

Soda Firing with

Samantha Hostert

June 22-23, 2024

Samanthan Hostert will be leading a cone ten soda firing and describing her strategies for Decorating, Loading, and Firing work to achieve rich atmospheric surfaces.  Her work is known for its dramatic flashing and pops of color.  Bring cone ten bisqueware, a few small pieces recommended for this learning experience. 1/2 cubic ft of space per person (about the size of a laguna clay box). Slips and glazes will be provided.  White stonewares and porcelains are recommended for the brightest results. http://www.samanthahostert.com/

April D. Felipe

October 12-13, 2024

More is More!  April Felipe uses clay, fiber, and other media to create narrative in her work.  Join her for explorations in mixed media ceramic surface design.  More details TBA as the workshop gets closer.

April received her B.F.A from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. She then worked for Greenwich House Pottery in New York City, and went on to earn her M.F.A in 2010 from Ohio University.  She is currently living In Ohio working for the Dairy Barn Arts Center and  working in her studio.  http://aprildfelipe.com/

Wood Firing Workshops

Learn to wood fire at Queen City Clay!

Glazing and wadding will take place from 9-1 on Friday.  Atmospheric slips and glazes included.  Loading will take place from 1-5.  The kiln will be lit Friday evening and fire through early Sunday morning.

Participants are required to work a minimum of one 4 hour shift and assist in clean up tasks immediately after the unload.  Unload will be at 6pm Monday with a pot luck at the kiln.

All work must be bisque fired, cone 10 clay.  

The workshop fee is $135 per unit of kiln space.
One unit is 1.5 cubic feet of kiln space (a 12”x24”X9” space)

The number of participants will be determined by the number of units each participants reserves at registration.

Now available!  The Queen City Clay Workshop Pass gives you discounted access to two national level workshops and two in-house workshops with our lead instructors for the 2024 season.

Registration for individual workshops will become available throughout the year.  Workshop pass holders will receive an email with registration instructions as soon as registration goes live, before notification to the general public.

If you buy your pass after the first of the year or after a workshop has been posted you will receive any necessary notifications at that time.

 

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations are permitted up to 14 days prior to the workshop.  For cancellations from 14 to 7 days prior to the workshop date, Queen City Clay will apply any workshop fees already paid towards a future workshop, to be used within one year of the date of the original workshop.  Participants will forfeit the balance of the workshop fee if attending a future workshop of lower cost.  No refunds or credits will be given within 7 days of the workshop.  Queen City Clay reserves the right to cancel any of our workshops based on enrollment.  All registrants that may be affected by this change will be notified and will receive a full refund for the workshop. 

Queen City Clay cannot provide special accommodations for attendees who become ill prior to the workshop.  In case of attendee illness, the normal cancellation policy applies.  Attendee may transfer their enrollment to another party.  Please notify QCC via EMAIL with the name, email address, and phone number of the person you wish to transfer your enrollment to, or to see if we have a waitlist with someone who can take your spot.
